Inks are types of liquid containing pigments or dyes used to produce an image, text or design. In printers, there are two major types of ink used to provide colour for these cartridges. When your printer is for printing photos primarily, your printer must have the right amount of coloured ink supply to appreciate your digital photos. On the other hand, if you are printing mostly text and written documents with less coloured images and objects, a reliable black and white ink cartridge would suffice.

Dye-based inks have been popularly used among majority of DeskJet or inkjet printers. Based on Wikipedia’s section on Ink, it is said that dyes in inks are generally must stronger than its counterpart, the pigment-based ink. Unfortunately, these dyes tend to dissolved in the liquid phase, and have the tendency to soak into paper. Ink bleeding on the paper is commonly the most obvious result when printed using this type of ink. Unless you have chosen good quality printer paper, the printed output would display poor quality printing.
The advantages of using dye-based inks include a more colour-enhanced printing because of the dye-based ink’s optical brighteners and other enhancing agents. Additionally, more consumers opt for these products of its low cost and easily availability.
